Carson Daly is going back to his MTV roots.
The former Total Request Live host, 51, arrived to the 2024 MTV VMAs in New York and brought a special guest: his 15-year-old son Jackson.
“I was telling Jackson it’s changed a lot,” Carson exclusively told E! News correspondent Will Marfuggi about returning to the VMAs, hosted this year by Megan Thee Stallion. “Getting in, security, just the whole vibe. This used to be like the wildest night in Hollywood. It’s now become such a huge institution now. It’s great to be here.” (For more from Carson’s interview, tune into E! News tonight, Sept. 11, at 11 p.m.)
As for if the Today cohost—who shares Jackson as well as Etta, 12, London, 10, and Goldie, 4, with wife Siri Pinter—is looking forward to meeting any of the night's long list of performers, which includes Shawn Mendes, Halsey, Karol G and Lenny Kravitz? He brought up his son’s excitement.
“I’ve met everybody here,” Carson continued. “Jackson wants to meet Eminem, I know that.”
And the 15-year-old responded in kind, saying, “I definitely want to meet Eminem,” adding, “My girlfriend is a huge Chappell Roan fan.”
The VMAs kicked off with a performance by Eminem and Chappell—who arrived on the red carpet in a medieval-style outfit, complete with a green cloak, a revealing maroon gown and her own rug and sword—will perform later in the night.
Carson shares son Jackson and daughters Etta, 12, London, 9, and Goldie, 4, with wife Siri, who he’s been married to since 2015. Earlier this year, Carson shared his thoughts on how quickly his eldest is growing up.
“He's starting to drive, so that's been kind of crazy," Carson told People in an interview published in April. "I have a pickup truck, so he drives my truck. It's going great. He's a really good driver."
